Master’s level students have the opportunity to obtain dual degrees by participating in a joint study program at two universities: Chernivtsi National University and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia. The agreement between the universities was signed on December 18, 2017.

As of 2025, 14 students of the Educational and Professional Program “English Language and Literature and a Second Foreign Language” have participated in this program.

Students from Slovakia also have the opportunity to study at Chernivtsi National University to obtain a Master’s degree.

For example, in the 2018/2019 academic year, Petra Fojtikova studied for one semester at the Department of English Language as part of the exchange program. Petra actively participated in all departmental activities, attended classes, and consulted with lecturers regarding her research topic.

Double Diplomas, or an incredible opportunity for students

Without exaggeration, the dual degree program offers many advantages for studying. What is the dual degree program? It is an opportunity not just to study abroad for one semester, but to obtain an internationally recognized diploma from Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia.

Studying a second foreign language with a native speaker, choosing the courses you want to take at the beginning of the semester, making new acquaintances, and traveling—all of this is part of the experience. While others were studying in a traditional format, as early as 2019 we had the opportunity to appreciate the benefits of distance learning. For example, the course “Teaching Methodology in Higher Education” was delivered by a lecturer from the USA. “Corpus Linguistics” was taught by a lecturer from Spain and somewhat resembled our Sociolinguistics course from the first semester, as it also included just one intensive week of study.

Advanced Essay Writing is not only about having a native speaker as a lecturer, writing essays, and reading literary works, but also about meeting other students and discussing assignments in groups.

All of this creates lasting memories: new subjects, new lecturers, a new campus, dormitory life, evening walks around the city, and much more that you will experience yourself if you choose this program.”
